Release Train Engineer (RTE)
Description

NxtGen  currently seeking an RTE who will support the Product and Engineering team, working closely with our team of product managers, product owners, designers, solution architects, developers, analysts, QA, and business stakeholders in best Agile practices and to take responsibility for ensuring our teams live by the values and Agile Practices. The ideal candidate will support multiple programmers and an ART.

Candidates must have an extensive working knowledge of Agile SAF e/Scrum processes. You will have a solid grasp of how to scale Lean and Agile practices and understand the unique opportunities and challenges associated with facilitating and continuously aligning a large program.

Responsibilities
  • Align the team on SAFe, Agile values and principles, and ensure focus on continuous improvement – likely within a scaled implementation and with teams at varying levels of Agile maturity.
  • Coach and mentor, the teams, help them remove their impediments, continually helping them to do better work and be a better team by working closely within the team, with Product and other stakeholders.
  • Facilitate program level ceremonies such as Program Increment (PI) Planning, Inspect and Adapt workshops, System Demos and Scrum of Scrums.
  • Work closely with functional management to highlight and help remove impediments impacting development teams.
  • Manage dependencies between delivery teams within or across various Release Trains.
  • Gather and report performance information (e.g. PI burn down data) and communicate metrics to ensure transparency on Release Train status.
  • Track and manage execution against program release goals. •Support setting and communication of programme priorities to the teams, embody the Lean-Agile mindset.
  • Aggregate and drive team PI objectives into Program / release objectives to ensure alignment with business and successful delivery
  • Participate in enterprise program management improvement and standardization activities. Encourage collaboration between Agile teams.
  • Protect the teams from external interference at any level by coaching others at all levels in the wider organisation on how best to interact with Scrum teams.
  • Maximize the effectiveness of the Scrum teams by helping them to operate well as a team.
  • Guide the teams in planning future development and estimating work effort required.
  • Work closely with the Delivery/Programme Managers and Business experts to ensure visibility and resolution of technical and business challenges.
  • Ultimately work toward a level of accountability such that the team requires less direct facilitation from the Agile Coach.
  • Lead by example within the Agile Coaching Team, through active participation, sharing, and knowledge transfer; seeking and providing actionable feedback.
  • Actively lead organizational Agile activities, including developing and leading training sessions open to the greater organization.
Qualifications
Key Requirements
  • 8+ years' experience of Project Management or Agile delivery
  • 4+ years’ experience of delivering ARTs or as an experienced Scrum master within an ART or as a Scrum Master.
  • Self-starter / Self-organizing, with good attention to detail (Essential)
  • Professional PM/Agile training, e.g., Prince2, SAFe, Scrum or equivalent3. (Desirable)
  • Experience with Agile SAFe framework, ART, RTE and PI planning. Proven track record of handling multiple Lean Agile Scrum teams.
  • Must be a Certified Scrum Master who understands backlog tracking, burn-down charts, velocity, scrum ceremonies, and task definition.
  • Able to demonstrate a wealth of experience from working in similar roles in other agile organizations and have a strong track record in changing teams to be more agile.
  • Very strong communication skills, such as listening, asking questions, and giving feedback, and the ability to help staff at all levels of the organisation to understand the benefits of working agile are essential.
  • Experience of Jira and any PI planning tools such as Kendis, VersionOne etc.
  • Knowledge of the Mobile apps, Cloud Technologies, Data Analytics, Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery, Continuous Testing and Automated Testing.
  • Thorough understanding of the software development lifecycle. Experience in a software development, delivery, or related role.
  • Expert in Scrum and SME knowledge of other Agile development approaches.
  • Ability to facilitate, understand, and contribute to technical discussions.
  • Effective facilitation and conflict resolution skills – able to facilitate discussion of multiple approaches and drive resolution.

Education/Qualifications

  • 1st class bachelor’s degree in Computers or similar.
  • Should be a certified Scrum Master, holding either a PSM or CSM (PSM preferred).
  • SAFe Agilest 5.0 certification or similar is desirable.
  • Advanced Agile certification, e.g. at the Coach, Practitioner, Professional, or Trainer level is highly desirable.
